I hate to mention it, but Christmas is coming. Why not start on handmade gifts right now and get them finished before the hectic holiday season? One gift that’s perfect for everyone is a calendar. For the 2016 Calendar I used pre-printed calendar cards from Taylored Expressions decorated with die cut scenes for each month.
Once you make your calendar, you can display it 3 different ways. My favorite is the 12” x 12” shadowbox that can be propped up on a desk or hung on the wall.
Or you may choose the smaller 4” x 6” shadowbox. For this one I added a shelf made from 4 thicknesses of cardstock so you can stack the months on it, displaying the current month on top. The three little openings along the right side of the box can be filled with photos or die cuts or whatever pleases you. The good thing about the shadowboxes is that you can add the calendar with just a bit of tape so that next year you can update it or fill it with other items.
Finally, an easy way to display this calendar set is on a Mini Easel. All these displays are available at The Stamp Act.

Cards I am Sending This Week
TUESDAY, JULY 14, 2015
Hello Members and Friends and thanks for stopping by my blog. Lately I have been sending cards to friends and family so today I thought I would share some of them with you. I hope you enjoy seeing them and remember that you can get all the supplies to make these cards right here at The Stamp Act. I am also happy to share the work of Jane Smith and Harriet Head, two wonderful papercrafters that you will be seeing more of in future blog posts.
House Pivot Card
Chloe has been on my mind ever since her vertigo episode. She is pretty much over it although her head remains a little tilted. In her honor I made this card which features the Elizabeth Craft Designs House Pivot die (designed by Karen Burniston). This card may look complicated but I assure you it is very simple; the set includes the roof line, extra pickets for the fence and the windows and door. In addition to the set I decorated the card with many other dies (all listed below).
Home is Where Your Dog is – Elizabeth Craft Designs die House Pivot card; Memory Box dies Alder Tree sm, Viva Tree and Alpha Classic U/C; Impression Obsession dies Tiny Flowers, Tulips, Leaves and Stems and Plain Alphabet U/C; poppy die and stamp set Fancy Clouds; Paper Smooches clear stamp set with matching die set Woofers & Tweeters; design inspired by Raquel Mason.
My friend Jane Smith created this card using the same die set. Jane’s House – Elizabeth Craft Designs die House Pivot card; Impression Obsession dies Fir Trees and Clouds; Poppy die Garden Pots and Buckets; card by Jane Smith
On Safari Cards
My niece Emilee is in her 4th year of vet school at Texas A&M and she is traveling around the globe doing internships at game preserves; research centers and zoos. Her next stop is Africa and Penny Black’s die On Safari was perfect for making her a special card. I made a few other cards using these animals – I love the colors and patterns!
Africa Animals – Penny Black die On Safari; Kaisercraft Into the Wild paper pad and die cuts
Colorful Animals – Penny Black die On Safari; Taylored Expressions cling-mount stamp set Sky High Sentiments; animals die cuts colored with Memento dye inks
Decorative Paper Animals – Penny Black die On Safari; Penny Black clear stamp set Snippets
Art Impressions Cards
My customer and friend Mary Lou lives in Florida and when I saw Art Impressions’ Rockin’ Ruby stamp I knew I had to make a card for her. This stamp (and the Feline stamp) are just a quick preview of other Art Impressions stamps coming soon to The Stamp Act. Click here (then go to page 2) to see the hilarious new stamps coming soon!
Rocking Ruby – Art Impressions cling-mount stamp Rockin’ Ruby; Spellbinders die Classic Circles large; design inspired by Judith Gowdy
My friend Harriet has the most “posable” cat – “EP” loves to have his picture taken. Harriet sent me this picture recently and it reminded me so much of this stamp that I had to make her and EP a card.
Cat – Art Impressions cling-mount stamp Feline; Taylored Expressions die Little Bits Spectacles
Harriet recently made this card which is so cute. Love the stamp – it says it all!
Live, Love – Deep Red cling-mount stamp Live, Love; Impression Obsession dies Puppy set and Cat set; Poppy dies Sitting Cat and Baby Kitties; card by Harriet Head
Memory Box "Row of Poppies" Die Cut Cards
And finally here are some cards that are just pretty. They really show off the dies beautifully.
Row of Poppies Beaded – Memory Box die Row of Poppies and Beaded Background; design inspired by Marnie Bushmole
Row of Poppies Red – Memory Box die Row of Poppies, Stitched Country Borders and Country Stitches; Taylored Expressions die Wispy Grass; Penny Black clear stamp set Snippets; Wink of Stella glitter pen

Brand New – Coming Soon
I have added a section to the What’s New page showing stamps that are on order (Brand New – Coming Soon). Many will be here this week. The new Halloween, Fall and Christmas collections are being released this month so there’s lots of new goodies on order. If you want to reserve any item for in-store pick-up or shipping, just contact me by phone or email.
Every week customers from out of town come into The Stamp Act and tell me that the stores in their city have closed. Albuquerque just lost its last stamp store, China Phoenix, which had been open for many, many years. Retail is a tough business and I appreciate every customer that shops here. Please shop locally when you can and remember if a product is not in stock, I am happy to order it for pick-up or shipping. Thanks so much for shopping at Stamp Act. Have a great week!

Hello Friends and Members. After making some very colorful cards (see Tips Class here), my desk was full of inks, stamps and dies so I decided to play with the supplies that were on my desk, adding to them as needed. Here’s what I created.

Paper Smooches Botanicals 3 Cards
FRIDAY, JULY 03, 2015
I love Paper Smooches flower stamps (with matching dies) because making cards with these stamp sets is so easy. You can add lots of color and texture by layering the stamps on top of each other. Here are some cards I created recently with the Botanicals 3 set and the Reflections Flowers set.
You can see the matching die sets on the What's New Page.
Sympathy – Paper Smooches clear stamp sets Botanicals 3 and Sentiment Sampler; Taylored Expressions die Label Stacklets 3; design inspired by Kim Hughes
You Color My World – Paper Smooches clear stamp sets Botanicals 3, Reflections and Wod Salad; Paper Smooches dies Reflections Flowers and Frame 2; design inspired by Kim Hughes
Tip: For the Sympathy card, I stamped the paper first then die cut the Labels frame. The frame was popped up on foam tape. Be sure you get your pieces all going in the right direction when you assemble the card -- ask me how I know!! Give your frame some glitz by die cutting it from glitter paper! Oh, and check out the cool Bead Board embossing Folder (new from Taylored Expressions). Add a layer without a lot of "weight" by using vellum -- I prefer the 40 lb vellum (we sell it!).
Hello – Paper Smooches clear stamp set Botanicals 3; Paper Smooches die Quote Tags; design inspired by Laura Bassen
Hello Kitty – Paper Smooches clear stamp sets Botanicals 3, Reflections and Feline Friends; Paper Smooches dies Feline Friends and Reflections Flowers; Penny Black clear stamp set Snippets; design inspired by Kay Miller
Tip: All these stamps (and many more) are in the sets above. Choose bold or soft colors in dye or pigment inks and your card will really stand out! Isn't the kitty cute?
Just Because – Paper Smooches clear stamp sets Botanicals 3 and Notebook Paper 2; Paper Smooches die Notebook Paper Basic; Penny Black clear stamp set Snippets; Taylored Expressions die Notepaper and Clip; design inspired by Teri Anderson
So Nice – Paper Smooches clear stamp sets Botanicals 3, Reflections and Word Salad; Paper Smooches die Frame 2; design inspired by Kim Hughes
Tip: Make a cork board with a Frame die and cork; add wood veneer embellishments for texture and interest and "pin" your message to the cork board with a brad.
Happy Everything – Paper Smooches clear stamp sets Botanicals 3 and Simply Said; design inspired by Kim Hughes
Thanks for stopping by!
Chloe's Not So Excellent Adventure
FRIDAY, JULY 03, 2015
Last week I woke up from a sound sleep in my cozy bed and the room was spinning. What’s going on? I tried closing my eyes, but even with them closed, I was dizzy. This must be a bad dream, I thought and tried to stand up, but my back legs were wobbly and I was walking like I was drunk – and I don’t drink! Pretty soon my tummy felt really bad and needless to say I didn’t want anything to eat or drink.
Mom noticed my condition and rushed me to the doctor. I don’t like going to the doctor because it’s noisy, scary and I’m not too crazy about the doctor either. When I had this same condition in February (for just a few hours), she diagnosed it as arthritis. Arthritis? I tried to tell her it’s not my joints, but she didn’t want to listen. This time the doctor gave the same diagnosis and the same shots (ugh!).
Mom brought me home and I was still very dizzy. I couldn’t even sleep because the room was spinning when I shut my eyes. I admit I cried a little and the only time I felt better was when Mom was holding me. On the third day I started cocking my head sideways because that helped make sense of the world. I didn’t eat or drink for four days and I felt terrible. Mom was getting very upset.
On Thursday, Mom took me to a new doctor’s office. This office was quiet – no barking dogs – and the staff seemed very nice and concerned. The doctor immediately figured out what was really wrong with me – the cocked head was a big clue! He called it Idiopathic (fancy word for “we don’t know the cause”) Perpiheral Vestibular Disease. That’s a lot of words … it’s an inflammation of the Vestibular nerve in the inner ear. This nerve sends signals to your brain about your relationship to the world around you. Mom said just call it Vertigo. The doctor tested my blood and declared me healthy except for the vertigo. He put me on an IV which I didn’t mind too much because it made me feel a little calmer. I finally got some sleep.
It’s been almost 2 weeks now and the dizziness is still there but I walk a little steadier. My head is still cocked sideways and the doctor said it may stay that way – I sure hope not because people think I look weird! I am drinking and eating; I try to look really pitiful at mealtimes so I get a lot of my favorite food -- chicken. Mom said I should get better soon. I would love it if you would come by the store and pet me because that helps me feel better.
Mom’s Note: What a shock it was for me to discover that dogs can get Vertigo. There’s no treatment for this condition and it often comes on in old age (Chloe is 14). The best treatment is lots of supportive care and love. Thanks for your concern.
